Bodycam Video Of Pineville Police Shooting Released
PINEVILLE, N.C. – Pineville police have released bodycam footage showing the chaotic sequence that led to the fatal shooting of 46-year-old Dennis Bodden in May.
Police say Bodden was believed to be a shoplifting suspect at the Food Lion on Johnston Road.
Sergeant Roberts, in uniform and in a marked car, made contact with Bodden in the parking lot, saying “Stop! Police.” Bodycam video shows Bodden not responding to Roberts’ commands to “get on the ground,” as he continues to walk away.
In the median of Johnston Road, police said Roberts attempted to arrest Bodden when the suspect resisted and bit the sergeant in the arm.
Roberts deployed a taser, but it was ineffective, and the two continued into the Berkshire Place Apartments complex.
Once in the complex, Bodycam footage shows Roberts saying “You ain’t getting away, bro.” Immediately after, bodycam shows Bodden becoming physically confrontational with Roberts.
The scene continued to escalate, resulting in Bodden being shot three times. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Throughout the sequence of events, police said that 22 lawful orders went unanswered from Bodden.
Authorities said Bodden had a history of violent tendencies against police and was known as a frequent shoplifter at the Food Lion. He also had two outstanding felony warrants for breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering at the same Food Lion, officials said.
