Monroe Police Continue To Search For Escaped Attempted Murder Suspect
MONROE, N.C. – Monroe Police are still searching for a man on the run after he escaped custody on May 31st.
Cleveland Waters, 42, has active warrants for attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and more.
On May 31st around 4:30 a.m., police responded to Winchester Avenue where they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to the hospital and survived from his injuries.
Police identified Waters as the suspect and arrested him inside his residence on Locklyn Road. Multiple firearms and illegal narcotics were seized, police said.
Once in custody, police said Waters presented information that could lead to the seizure of a large amount of illegal narcotics. Waters, in handcuffs, went with detectives in an unmarked police car for an undercover operation near Carroll Street and Rolling Hills Drive.
As an officer started to leave the parking lot during the operation, police said Waters attempted to escape. The officer got out to stop him, but the unmarked car hit an unoccupied vehicle, allowing Waters to run away.
Waters has not been seen since. There are active warrants out for his arrest. He is described as a black male last seen wearing black pants and a red shirt.
Anyone that sees him is asked not to approach and call 911. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Union County Crime Stoppers at 704-283-5600.
A cash reward is offered for information that could lead to Waters’ arrest.
