ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Rock Hill Police Department is investigating a shooting and stabbing at an Islamic Center, according to a news release.
The release states that on August 16 at 2:05 pm, officers responded to a call at the Islamic Center on West Main Street involving a stabbing and shooting and were informed that the person who was shot had fled the center and the person who was stabbed was still inside.
Upon arrival, officers say they found a 27-year-old man with minor gunshot wounds on Laurel Street. Officers at the Islamic Center found a 44-year-old man with a stab wound to the abdomen.
The preliminary investigation states that the 27-year-old, identified as Travaughn West, approached the 44-year-old man after a service and stabbed him. The onsite security guard confronted West and shot him when West continued to act in a violent manner, resulting in West fleeing the scene, as said in the release.
The 44-year-old man was transported to a medical center and is expected to fully recover.
West was transported to the same hospital and will be served with warrants for assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and possession of a knife during a crime of violence when released.
The investigation also states that West and the victim are acquaintances and the incident is not religious-related.
