Men’s title match at the Open today…Williams wins again…Monday Night Football returns…Broncos beat Colts

NEW YORK (AP) β€” The U.S. Open comes to an end this afternoon after two weeks of play in New York. The men’s title match features two giant killers as tenth-seed Kei Nishikori (KAY nesh-ih-KOHR’-ee) advanced to the title match with a win over No. 1 Novak Djokovic (NOH’-vak JOH’-kuh-vich), and 14th-seed Marin Cilich (CHIHL’-ihch) eliminated second-seed Roger Federer.

NEW YORK (AP) β€” The women’s title match in the U.S. Open was contested yesterday with two-time defending champion Serena Williams beating Caroline Wozniacki (wohz-nee-AK’-ee) 6-2, 6-3. Williams now has six U.S. Open titles to her credit along with 18 Grand Slam singles championships.

UNDATED (AP) β€” For the die-hard NFL fan there are two games to choose from this evening. In the first game, the Lions are playing host to the Giants, while the second game has San Diego playing at Arizona.

DENVER (AP) β€” In case you missed the NFL game last night, the Broncos held off the Colts for a 31-24 win. The game started out as a romp for the Broncos as they led 24-0 before the Colts came alive. Peyton Manning completed 22 of 36 passes for 269 yards and three touchdowns, all in the second quarter.

UNDATED (AP) β€” There are two afternoon games in baseball today. In Cleveland, the Indians and Angels are making up a game rained out in June, and in Detroit, there’s a big game as the Tigers play host to the Royals. In the American League Central, the Royals lead the Tigers by two games and the Indians by five.
