Charlotte Fire Department Is Working To Extinguish Discrimination Concerns
CHARLOTTE, NC — The Charlotte Fire Department says they are working to recruit more women and minorities after recent concerns were raised.
Charlotte’s NAACP president, Corine Mack, confronted CFD leaders during an open house Wednesday. Mack says the department isn’t doing enough, and says she has concerns about possible racism, retaliation, and minorities in the department being consistently passed over for promotions.
Deputy Chief Rich Granger says the department is having trouble recruiting minorities, and that’s why more are not being promoted.
The deputy chief encourages high school and college grads who don’t have a career in mind to consider becoming a firefighter. The next entrance exam will be held in December.
