Discussion:
Models picking up on more moisture and further north and west track for accumulating snow with a winter storm later today. A winter weather advisory is in effect for all counties near and south and east of I-85 — including the Charlotte Metro region. Snow will begin after 4pm, peaking between 6-9pm and tapering off by midnight. Temperatures won’t get above freezing today which means any snow that falls will likely stick and lead to some possible dangerous travel tonight. Snowfall totals near the I-85 corridor will range from a dusting to 1″ with up to 2″ for the far eastern edge of the WCCB viewing area. The band of heavier snow is a little further west, and will be something to watch — but highest totals will likely remain east of the region. Extreme cold warning tonight for the mountains with wind chills 10-20 below zero. Temperatures will fall into the single digits and teens across the Piedmont and foothills. Temps will remain cold with highs near freezing Wednesday. Temps will slowly warm through the end of the week with seasonable highs returning early next week.
