If You’re Going To Be Out In The Heat, Take Extra Precautions
CHARLOTTE, NC — If you’re planning on spending any amount of time outside in the heat officials say to take extra precautions.
Medic says they’ve responded to at least seven heat-related calls this week, and at least three Friday. Officials say that number doesn’t include medical issues that are triggered by the heat like breathing problems and cramps.
Medic says to drink plenty of water and limit your time out in the sun.
The heat has also added another level of danger for firefighters. Firefighters in Pineville train in full gear without air conditioning to help prepare. Officials say they also have a medic at every call they respond to.
Medics monitor the firefighters’ heart rate and blood pressure and also watch for signs of dehydration.
