Concord mother closer to regaining vision after accidentally gluing eye shut

CONCORD, NC – A Concord mother is now hopeful she’ll see again. WCCB reported in early January that K’netha Faggart feared she lost vision in her left eye for good after she mistook nail glue for eye drops. She wanted to refresh her contacts, but grabbed the wrong bottle in her dark. Faggart said as soon as the glue reached her eye she felt a burning pain through her entire body.

Faggart said all of the glue has been safely removed from her eye after a doctor visit just two weeks ago. It took doctors several attempts to cut open her eye and a lot of patience from Faggart to wait for some of the glue to fall out. She doesn’t have to wear an eye patch or light blocking glasses anymore. Faggart said she’s been doing different exercises to help her regain full control over her eye. So far her headaches have also disappeared.

Faggart still cannot fully see out of her left eye but she is more confident her vision will return. “I can see, like a little shadow on this side and then a little shooting star. So it’s coming back,” Faggart said.

Faggart is scheduled to visit  her doctor a few more times in the coming weeks. These visits will help to determine whether or not her vision is getting stronger. “I feel so much better. I’m so grateful and thankful,” Faggart said

Faggart warns others to double check before using eye drops. She says the packaging of nail glue and eye drops are scarily similar and she hopes manufacturers will take steps to differentiate the products in the future. Poison Control experts say it’s not uncommon for accidents like this to happen. The experts suggest anyone who accidentally gets glue in their eye to avoid trying to pry it open or wash it away with another chemical, and instead visit an emergency room immediately.
