Original Story:
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A massive sink hole has closed Mallard Creek Road near Johnston Oehler Road.
The sink hole stretches across both lanes of Mallard Creek Road and is 20 feet wide and 15 feet deep, covering both travel lanes.
Earlier this morning, a truck driver hit the sink hole and had to go to the hospital for unknown injuries.
NCDOT crews will utilize a trackhoe today to remove any remaining asphalt to get a better look at the damage and assess what repairs will be needed. Officials say accessing the damage and getting an emergency contract together may take a few days.
There is not a current timeframe or cost estimate for repairs.
