Man Cited After Trying To Bring Gun Through Charlotte Douglas TSA Checkpoint

CHARLOTTE, NC — A North Carolina man has been cited after officials say he tried to bring a gun through a TSA checkpoint at Charlotte Douglas International Airport Tuesday morning.

Transportation Security Administration officers say the man had a loaded .22 caliber pistol when he tried to go through Checkpoint D around 9am. According to reports, the weapon was found when the man tried to pass through the metal detector.

CMPD responded to the incident and issued a citation for carrying a firearm on airport property.

Officials say 35 firearms have been found at TSA checkpoints at CLT so far this year. Last year, 54 firearms were found.

The TSA reminds passengers that there is a right and wrong way to travel with a firearm.  Passengers are permitted to travel with firearms in checked baggage if they are unloaded, packed in a hard-side case, locked, and packed separately from ammunition. Then the firearm must be taken to the airline check-in counter.
