Discussion:
We’re in for a classic spring swing this week. High pressure will push high back in the low 70s this afternoon under sunny skies, but by Wednesday, warm air surges in on gusty southwest winds, sending our temps soaring into the upper 70s to low 80s — about 15 degrees above average. The problem is, humidity tanks at the same time, dropping to 15-25% by Wednesday afternoon. That combo of warm, dry and breezy conditions will create near critical fire weather conditions across much of the area.
A fast moving cold front slides through Thursday, bringing a quick round of showers early in the day — but rainfall totals remain light and won’t help the drought. The bigger impact will be the gusty winds kicking up behind the front, especially in the mountains, where some of the highest peaks could see snow Thursday afternoon. Winds could gust 25-35 mph across the area, with stronger gusts for the mountains.
We’ll dry out quickly heading into Friday and the weekend. Friday morning starts chilly with lows in the 30s, but winds should keep us from seeing frost. The weekend looks great, weatherwise — lots of sun and temps back in the 70s. Our next shot at widespread rain arrives late Sunday into Monday.
