KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) β€” The Kansas City Royals will spend the next eight weeks without All-Star outfielder Alex Gordon because of a severe groin strain. Gordon was injured while tracking a fly ball in the fourth inning of Wednesday’s victory. Gordon is batting .279 with 11 home runs and 39 RBIs for the American League’s top team.

CLEVELAND (AP) β€” Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James has agreed to terms of a one-year, $23 million contract for next season, according to two people familiar with the negotiations. The deal includes a $24 million player option for 2016-17, said the persons who spoke on condition of anonymity because James has not yet signed the contract.

LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) β€” Karrie Webb and Marina Alex will be clubhouse co-leaders when the third round of the U.S. Women’s Open resumes today in Lancaster, Pa. Webb and Alex opened with 4-under 66s, putting them one stroke ahead of Amy Yang, Na Yeon Choi and Jane Park. A severe weather forecast stopped play yesterday, forcing 56 players to complete their opening rounds this morning.

SILVIS, Ill. (AP) β€” Justin Thomas and Nicholas Thompson share the lead heading into the second round of the PGA’s John Deere Classic in Illinois. Thomas and Thompson opened with 8-under 61s, putting them one stroke ahead of Charles Howell III and Luke Guthrie. Jordan Spieth (speeth) fired an even-par 71 that puts him eight strokes back in a tuneup for the British Open.
