CHARLOTTE, NC – Parents are urging the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board to take action after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity around a school in Charlotte.
The principal at Charlotte East Language Academy sent a message to parents Monday afternoon confirming the activity, saying in part, “We want to inform you that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity occurred near our schoolβs drop off line earlier today.Β We understand that this may cause concern within our community. Please know that the safety, well-being, and dignity of our students and families are our top priority. Our school remains committed to being a safe, supportive, and welcoming space for every child.”
A CMS spokesperson told WCCB Charlotte the district cannot confirm any arrests.
The school’s PTA posted on Instagram, calling on the school board to take a clear, public stance regarding ICE enforcement.
