Beautiful stretch continues
Significant rain chances return by Sunday evening, but your holiday weekend plans won't be washed out.
Wonderful weather has ushered us through this Thursday with the passage of a pair of cold fronts that rushed through the Carolinas yesterday. Highs managed to crack 80° across the Piedmont and Foothills today, but lows will quickly drop into the 50s overnight; 40s are likely in the High Country as we wake up for the final day of the workweek. Friday and Saturday will be perfect – highs in the 60s and 70s, plentiful sunshine, and low humidity. While a stray shower can’t be ruled out for our western counties, the vast majority of us remain dry through Sunday morning.
Significant rain chances return by Sunday evening, and opportunities for scattered showers and storms linger into Tuesday. That said, your holiday weekend plans won’t be washed out. Most models keep much of the WCCB Charlotte viewing area dry on Memorial Day for now, but mostly cloudy skies and highs only reaching into the upper 70s around the Metro won’t make for a great lake day. The bulk of the rain arrives on Tuesday as an area of low pressure tracks through the Southeast. We’ll want to watch this system carefully for its severe weather potential. Rain chances take another dive after Tuesday, but may ramp up again by the end of next week.
