Wadesboro Police Department says it’s committed to professionalism after controversial K9 officer death

WADESBORO, N.C. – The Wadesboro Police Department is planning for the future. On Wednesday, interim Chief Thedis Spencer spoke about the department’s commitment to transparency, professionalism and enhanced officer training.

The department faced a lot of controversy earlier this year following the death of a K9 officer. Spencer hopes to open up lines of communication between the people of Wadesboro and the police. He also says hiring more patrol officers is a priority. Right now, they only have four.

Spencer says, “They explained to me, Chief, we don’t see the police like we used to because they’re short. And it’s been issues. So we that’s we need to get back out into the community.”

The interim chief also says one of his key goals is to find the right permanent chief for the town.
