STATESVILLE, N.C. — A man from Statesville is behind bars after investigators say he was having inappropriate online conversations with a minor.
The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Daniel Chambers Jr., is also accused of attempting to meet the minor with the intent to have sexual contact, according to a news release from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation originated with the Durham Police Department in April after they received information about possible sexual crimes against children, according to the news release.
Once Chambers was identified as the suspect, Durham Police reached out to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office to assist in the case.
On July 3rd, authorities say they executed a search warrant at Chambers’ home on Ledgehill Road in Statesville.
Following the completion of the search warrant, authorities say Chambers was taken into custody on the outstanding felony charges, according to the news release.
Detectives say they seized several items of evidence found in Chambers’ possession, including the electronic devices authorities believe Chambers used while communicating with the minor.
Chambers has been charged with Felony First Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor and Felony Solicitation of a Minor by Computer.
Chambers is currently in the Iredell County Detention Center where he is being held under a $250,000 secured bond, according to the news release.
Detectives say the investigation is ongoing, and more charges are possible.
Investigators say Chambers has a prior criminal history for Felony Dissemination of Obscenity.
