CMS staff member arrested after two guns found in fanny pack at Butler High School

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ staff member is facing a felony charge after two guns were reportedly found inside a fanny pack at a local high school, according to arrest documents.

Those documents say an employee noticed the bag had been left unattended inside the Butler High School learning center. The school employee allegedly found a gun inside the bag when checking it for identification.

The principal was informed and then located the owner of the bag, Butler’s Academics Facilitator Justin Moyer, along with a second firearm inside the bag, according to the arrest record. Moyer reportedly admitted that he was the owner of the bag and the pistols inside, according to the document.

Moyer has a valid concealed carry permit in Cabarrus County and has no violations, according to authorities.

He told investigators he carries the weapons for personal protection.

Moyer has been charged with felony possession of a gun on an educational property. He was released from jail on a written promise to appear in court.
