Rain And Snow Into Early Saturday, Cold Weekend Ahead
Periods of rain and snow are likely through Saturday morning. Temperatures will drop into the low to mid 30s in Charlotte, slightly colder north and west of Charlotte and slightly warmer south and east. The best chance for accumulating snow will be north and west of I-85 where 1-2″ may accumulate overnight. Further north along I-40, 2-5″ are possible and in the mountains 5-8″ are possible. Areas south and east of Charlotte will see rain mixing with snow at times, but only a light coating is possible. In and around Charlotte, roadways will remain wet with marginally cold temperatures and warm ground conditions. Slick spots will be possible in areas that see higher snowfall accumulations, particularly north and west of I-40. If you are traveling up to the mountains watch for slick spots. Rain and snow showers will taper off Saturday morning with chilly gradually improving conditions during the afternoon, highs in the low 40s. Saturday night will remain cold with lows in the mid 20s, watch for areas of black ice where snow melts during the day Saturday. Mostly sunny skies return Sunday with cold temperatures, highs in the mid 40s.
