CHARLOTTE, N.C. (CNN) — Border Patrol agents will be deployed to Charlotte soon, according to three U.S. officials familiar with the planning.

The information comes as officials have been vocal about eyeing other locations to ramp up arrests.

The deployment of agents, led by Gregory Bovino, is part of President Donald Trump’s effort to surge federal law enforcement into cities and states, regardless of whether local officials support the move.

Bovino and his agents are expected to finalize their operations in Chicago before making their way to the Charlotte area, according to two officials who stressed the plans are still being finalized. Those same sources say New Orleans, Louisiana, is another city expected to see agents in the near future.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement is expected to continue operations in the Chicago. A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said in a statement that agents are not leaving Chicago and will continue to enforce Operation Midway Blitz.
