Charlotte Man Charged in Murder of 17-Day Old Baby from Kannapolis
CHARLOTTE, NC – A Charlotte man is locked up, charged with the murder of a 17-day-old baby girl from Kannapolis. We’re now learning disturbing details about her death.
“That is awful, like I really want to cry,” explains Kannapolis neighbor Jasmine Holder.
Residents at the Cabarrus Arms Apartments say they’re heartbroken over the loss of the little girl.
“Cute little girl. Brand new baby, I remember cause I said, ‘Awww.. look at the baby,'” Holder says.
DSS alerted Kannapolis Police about possible abuse February 9th.
The baby died at the hospital on Monday.
Police initially arrested 39-year-old Maurice Daniels on probation violations the same day, then added murder charges.
Members of CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team found him at the Knights Inn on Nations Ford Road in South Charlotte.
Warrants allege Daniels intentionally inflicted serious bodily injury, including head trauma, and a broken collarbone.
“For real, who would beat a baby like that? That’s sad! That’s really sad,” says neighbor Regina Ellis.
Ellis says she met the little girl’s mother a few weeks ago.
“I didn’t even know she had the baby until somebody told me this morning,” she says.
