CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — Hibriten High School is operating under a soft lock down following the discovery of a hand written note in a restroom on Thursday, which made a specific threat to the school.
Authorities conducted an investigation Thursday night and before students arrived Friday morning.
The school was cleared for regular operations and additional law enforcement officers will be on campus throughout the day.
Soft lock down status means all outside activity is suspended and exterior classroom doors remain locked.
“Threats of any kind and possession of weapons of any type will not be tolerated,” said Caldwell County Schools Superintendent Dr. Steve Stone. “All threats, even ones that are casually said or passed off as a prank, will be
immediately investigated and prosecuted aggressively.”
It is a felony charge for any person to make a false report of mass violence on school property, and law enforcement officers continue to investigate to find out who was responsible and make an arrest.
