CHARLOTTE, NC — Kemba Walker made a last second push in the game against the Cavaliers Wednesday night to pass Dell Curry as the Charlotte Hornets’ all-time leading scorer.
The Hornets lost to Cleveland 118 to 105, but it was a historic night for the veteran point guard. Walker’s night started slow with only three points in the first half, but a second half rally put him over the top.
Dell Curry was in the booth as Walker surpassed his record and applauded the achievement.
After the game, a tearful Walker told reporters, “I’m not supposed to be here. A lot of people from where I’m from don’t make it.”
Hornets Chairman, Michael Jordan issued a statement shortly after the game congratulating Walker:
“I’m really happy for Kemba. Becoming a franchise’s all-time leading scorer is a big accomplishment and it’s a testament to his hard work, dedication and passion for the game of basketball. He exemplifies what it means to be a Hornet.
