Teen Charged With Making Threat At Lake Norman High School

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Officials say they charged a student at Lake Norman High School for sending threatening text messages.

The investigation began on April 10th after a student said they received threatening text messages from several unknown numbers.

Detectives say they determined the phone numbers from the incoming messages were ‘spoof’ numbers.  Detectives served several search warrants for electronic evidence collected by the telecommunications companies the threats were sent by and received through.

Based on the records, it was determined Michael Kelly sent the messages.  Kelly was arrested for making a false report of mass violence on an educational property, which is a felony.

Kelly was arrested without incident and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was given a $100,000 bond.

In addition to this new charge, deputies say Kelly has pending charges for making a false report of mass violence on an educational property that happened in May 2017 and impersonating a law enforcement officer in February 2017.
