CHARLOTTE, NC — Several areas throughout the center City are blocked this afternoon as Charlotte Water crews work to repair several water main breaks.
Officials say the leaks started as a result of repair work being done to two separate 54-inch pipes at Moorehead Road and Rozzelles Ferry Road. According to CLT Water, when the pipes are shut off for repairs and then turned back on, leaks can appear in other locations due to temporary changes in pressure and flow.
The outbreak of leaks across the center City area today are likely due to this fluctuation, officials say.
Drivers should avoid areas areas around E. 9th and N. Caldwell, as well as 8th and Caldwell and 8th and Davidson. Officials say there is no definite timetable on how long the repairs will take, or the extent of customer outages at this time.
Anyone who loses water service temporarily may experience cloudy or discolored water when the service returns. Officials say running the cold water tap for 10-15 minutes should clear up any discoloration.
