Charlotte Man Sentenced To 20 Years In Prison For 2015 Bank Robberies

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte man will spend the next two decades in prison for two bank robberies he committed in 2015, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney R. Andrew Murray.

On Tuesday, May 22, 2018, Judge Robert J. Conrad sentenced Ronald McKnight, 34, of Charlotte to 20 years in prison without the possibility of parole and three years of supervised release for robbing the Fifth Third Bank located at 212 South Tryon Street on January 5, 2015 and the Wells Fargo located at 2910 South Boulevard on January 9, 2015.

According to court documents, McKnight entered the Fifth Third Bank and handed the teller a note that said, “Robbery 100 50 20 No Die packs.”

The teller complied and gave McKnight over $1,732 in cash before McKnight left the bank.

Four days later, McKnight entered the Wells Fargo and again passed a note instructing the teller to give him cash in denominations of $100, $50, and $20, and not to include a dye pack.

The teller complied and gave McKnight more than $1,660 in cash before McKnight fled.

McKnight was arrested on January 9, 2015 and was convicted by a federal jury in June of 2017.
