SC Tests Lane Reversal Plans Ahead Of 2018 Hurricane Season
SOUTH CAROLINA — The 2018 hurricane season is expected to be above normal with 14 named storms and six hurricanes.
The South Carolina Department of Public Safety (SCDPS) wants to make sure people along the coast are ready, so law enforcement tested the state’s lane reversal plans Thursday on I-26 and other major roads leading inland from the coast.
South Carolina learned a tough lesson during Hurricane Floyd in 1999. It took people nearly 12 hours to drive what is usually a two hour trip on I-26.
Lance Coporal David Jones with the SCDPS says, “We want to make sure that everybody knows what do to in the event that a hurricane is approaching the coast of South Carolina and we are impacted. We’re going to have everything in place and be ready to go.”
Hurricane season runs through November 30th.
