Person Of Interest Not Charged In Uptown Shooting; Man Dies From Injuries

The Latest: 

A man who was shot last Friday near uptown Charlotte has died from his injuries, according to police.

Wayne Carrothers, 37, was pronounced deceased at Carolinas Medical Center early Saturday morning, following the shooting that occurred on Friday, June 15th.

Investigators have determined that Carrothers was armed while he was breaking into a residence on Greenleaf Avenue, when the homeowner shot him.

Detectives had obtained a Felony Breaking and Entering warrant on Carrothers before his death.

The shooter has not been charged with a crime and his name has not been released.  Police will present the case to the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s office to determine if charges will be filed.

The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Wayne Carrothers.  According to the CMPD he remains in serious condition at Carolinas Medical Center.

CHARLOTTE, NC — CMPD says they are speaking with a person of interest in connection to Friday’s shooting near Uptown.

The shooting happened around 4:17pm on W. 1st Street near Frazier Park. Medic says one victim was taken to CMC with life threatening injuries.

 

Police say homicide detectives are speaking with a male person of interest, as well as witnesses from the scene. Officials say they’re not looking for any other suspects at this time.
