CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Days after the LaMelo Ball trade, the Charlotte Hornets are sending Miles Bridges to the Phoenix Suns, according to an ESPN report.
According to ESPN, the Hornets are trading Bridges and two draft picks in exchange for Grayson Allen, Royce O’Neale, and a future first round pick.
Below is the full details of the trade:
- Hornets receive: Grayson Allen, Royce O’Neale, unprotected 2033 first-round pick
- Suns receive: Miles Bridges, 2029 first-round pick, 2027 second-round pick
Bridges had played his entire career with the Hornets since being drafted No. 12 overall in the 2018 NBA Draft. Across seven seasons, he averaged 15.9 points, including a team-high 20.2 in the 2021-22 season, and 6.1 rebounds across 501 appearances.
The 28-year-old forward also drew criticism during his time in Charlotte. He missed the entire 2022-23 season following his arrest in June 2022 due to a domestic violence incident against the mother of his two children. He was also suspended without pay for the first 10 games of the following season.
In return, the Hornets acquired two key role players with playoff pedigree.
Allen, notoriously known for his polarizing play at Duke, where he won an NCAA championship and was a three-year starter in the mid-2010s, comes back to North Carolina after years of bouncing around in the NBA.
The Hornets will be the fifth team Allen’s played for since being drafted in 2018, but the 30-year-old started to hit his stride in Phoenix. Last season with the Suns, he averaged a career-high in points (16.5), assists (3.8), and steals (1.4) per game.
Allen is the third former Blue Devil on the Hornets’ roster, joining Kon Knueppel and Sion James.
Charlotte also acquired O’Neale in the trade. He started his career in the NBA with the Utah Jazz in 2016. The 33-year-old started 67 of 78 games for the Suns last year and averaged 9.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.
The trade comes days after Charlotte traded Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Naz Reid and several draft picks. The Hornets also recently re-signed point guard Coby White to a three-year contract.
