Carolina Panthers quarterback Will Grier is retiring from football at 31.

Grier had re-signed with Carolina in April. He was drafted by the Panthers in the third-round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He played two seasons in Carolina before joining five different organizations across his seven-year career.

The 31-year-old was born and raised in Charlotte and played high school football at Davidson Day School. He was a two-year starter at West Virginia and threw for 7,354 yards and 71 touchdowns in 22 games for the Mountaineers.

Carolina now goes from having four quarterbacks down to three. Bryce Young remains the starting quarterback with former first-round pick Kenny Pickett serving as the backup.

As of now, the third-string quarterback will be undrafted rookie Haynes King.

The Panthers kick off the preseason in the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday, Aug. 6 against the Arizona Cardinals. Their season opener is a home date with the Chicago Bears on Sept. 13.
