NFL-SCHEDULE

Bucs at Falcons

ATLANTA (AP) β€” Thursday night football in the NFL has Tampa Bay at Atlanta. While the Bucs are still looking for their first win of the season at 0-2, the Falcons are 1-1.

After opening the season with an overtime win over New Orleans, Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is coming off a tough loss against Cincinnati, where he was sacked twice, hit nine times and tossed three interceptions.

As for the Buccaneers, they need to do a lot of things better on the offensive side. They’ve scored only 31 points and averaged less than 300 yards per game with 35-year-old journeyman Josh McCown at quarterback.

CARDINALS PLAYER ARRESTED

Dwyer out of jail

PHOENIX (AP) β€” Arizona Cardinals running back Jonathan Dwyer was released from jail early today after his arrest on aggravated assault charges in connection with two altercations at his home in July involving a woman and an 18-month-old child. The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office says Dwyer posted bond and was released.

The Cardinals said they became aware of the situation yesterday and are cooperating with the investigation. Dwyer has been deactivated from all team activities. The NFL said the case will be reviewed under the league’s personal-conduct policy.

Dwyer was charged with three counts, including “aggravated assault causing a fracture” involving the unidentified 27-year-old victim.

Police says the 25-year-old denied committing any assault.

PEPSICO-NFL

PepsiCo latest sponsor to voice NFL concern

NEW YORK (AP) β€” The leader of Gatorade maker PepsiCo is urging the National Football League to “seize the moment” and put domestic violence and child abuse policies in place immediately once it conducts its review.

PepsiCo is one of several NFL sponsors watching closely as the league investigates how its executives handled evidence in the domestic violence case of former Baltimore Ravens player Ray Rice. The Minnesota Vikings Adrian Peterson is also facing a felony child abuse charge that has placed more attention on the NFL.

T-25 COLLEGE FOOTBALL

Auburn visits K-State

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) β€” There’s a match-up of rated teams in college football tonight. That’s when number-five Auburn visits number-20 Kansas State. Both clubs are 2-0.

MLB-SCHEDULE

One day game

OAKLAND (AP) β€” There is one afternoon game in the majors with Texas at Oakland. The A’s begin play tied with Kansas City for the two American League wild-card spots.

St. Louis starts the day with a 2 1/2 game lead over Pittsburgh in the National League Central. The Cardinals host Milwaukee while the Pirates entertain Boston. The Bucs are riding a 3-game winning streak and have won 8 of their last ten. As for the NL wild-card picture, Pittsburgh and San Francisco have the top two spots while the Brewers are 2 and 1/2 games back.

In the NL West, Los Angeles is two games up on San Francisco. The Dodgers visit the Chicago Cubs tonight while the Giants take the day off.

Seattle starts play two games out of the wild-card picture. The Mariners visit the Los Angeles Angels.

The rest of the baseball schedule has Toronto at the Yankees, Washington at Miami, Houston home to Cleveland, Arizona at Colorado and Philadelphia visiting San Diego.
