Scooter Chargers Cashing In Around Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, NC – A new way to get around Charlotte could now give you a new career.
We are talking about the electric scooters you see around town.
All you need in a plugin outlet and a charger.
“I pick them up, charge them at the house and put them back out in the morning. Pretty easy,” said Brad Claxton.
He can make up to 20 bucks a scooter according to scooter companies Lime and Bird. Some people claim they can make nearly $400 a day or week if they get 40 scooters.
“If you can find that many and fit them in your car, yeah you could probably make 400 bucks a night,” said Claxton.
“It seemed easy, but I also have a smaller car,” said Jennifer Lynch. “So, trying to think how many I could fit in there to make it worth the money, I don’t know.”
You can download the Lime or Bird application on your phone, apply to be a charger. The company sends you a charger. The app shows you where dead scooters are on the map.
“Bird works with a network of trained chargers in the local markets where we operate, and we warmly welcome those who would like to join our charger community. As part of our Save Our Sidewalks Pledge, and to help riders have the best possible experience, these individuals help collect Birds each evening for charging in exchange for anywhere from $5 to $20 per vehicle. Chargers can pick up as many Birds as they want on any given day, which can provide a great source of supplemental income,” said a Bird spokesperson
The lower the battery, the more that scooter’s worth, chargers say.
Some juicers keep it quiet because others could cash in, meaning less scooters for them.
“It can get pretty competitive,” said Claxton. “I don’t think it’s that bad in Charlotte, but I’ve read stories about people pushing people out of the way to
get scooters in other cities.”
It can take several hours to charge these things, and a lot of you have asked if it makes your electric bill go up. Most people tell us they don’t notice it.
