The mid-term elections will be held on Tuesday, November 6th. Residents in Mecklenburg County can vote at their assigned polling location, which can be found HERE.
Voters in our area will help decide who controls Congress.
There are also several key local races and amendments on the ballot.
Early voting numbers have been strong in Mecklenburg County, with more than 123,000 people casting ballots.
Experts are watching the tight 9th District Congressional Race. Republican Mark Harris is running as a Christian conservative. Democrat Dan McCready calls himself a moderate.
Analysts are calling the race a toss-up.
At stake is control of the U.S. House of Representatives. Democrats need 24 seats to win a majority.
There are also six constitutional amendments on the ballot in North Carolina.
Here’s a breakdown – if approved two of the amendments would take power away from the Governor’s office. One would put legislators in control of who’s appointed to the Board of Elections and Ethics instead of the Governor.
The other would limit who the Governor could appoint to judicial vacancies.
Instead of choosing himself, the Governor would pick from a list provided by the General Assembly. The other four amendments are a bit more straightforward.
One would add a requirement that voters show ID.
Another would cap the state tax rate at 7 percent. There’s one that would require crime victims to be notified about court dates for suspects in their cases.
The last would ensure people have the right to hunt and fish.
