BOONE, NC — The winter storm dumped mostly snow in the high country Monday night. Β
Moderate to heavy snowfall began in the late afternoon in Boone, reaching about three to four inches of accumulation by 10:00pm. Β More snow is expected to fall overnight.
In Morganton, the snow quickly changed to sleet Monday afternoon, and roads deteriorated quickly. Β Most of the people we spoke with were trying to get home before conditions got worse.
“They’re getting bad. Β I think they’re going to get worse as tonight goes down, temperature goes down, but at the moment it’s still drive-able,” said Morganton resident John Lo.
The driving conditions will get continually worse overnight into Tuesday morning as temperatures fall and the precipitation continues.
