Driver Crashes Into Pole After Leading Officers On Police Chase In South Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man is in the hospital after he led officers on a police chase and crashed into a pole in south Charlotte early Wednesday.

Around 1:15 a.m., Pineville Police officers attempted to pull over a male driver on I-485 in Pineville for careless and reckless driving.

The driver refused to pull over when he saw the blue lights and heard the siren. He then traveled down South Boulevard and crashed into a light pole near Woodlawn Road.

The man jumped from the car and ran off, however police caught the driver after a short foot chase. He was arrested and will later be charged with felony drug possession and numerous misdemeanor traffic violations.

Police say he was in possession of cocaine and marijuana when he was apprehended.

The driver suffered minor scraps from the crash but was sent to an area hospital as a precaution.

His name has not yet been released.
