PITTSBURGH (AP) β Pittsburgh Steelers fullback Will Johnson worried about getting lost in the shuffle as the Steelers gave their offense an overhaul in the offseason.
Those days are over. Johnson has become a vital part of the NFL’s top rushing attack, clearing holes for Le’Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount.
The Steelers ran for 264 yards in last week’s 37-19 win over Carolina. Bell and Blount both topped 100 yards, the first time two Steelers backs have done that in the same game in 28 years.
Johnson played 27 snaps, 22 more than he saw in the first two weeks combined. He helped lead the way for Blount’s 8-yard touchdown that capped Pittsburgh’s biggest road win in four years.
The Steelers (2-1) host winless Tampa Bay (0-3) on Sunday.
