CHARLOTTE, NC — “We are the voice for Jonathan Ferrell, my son, Jonathan Hakim Pierre Ferrell.  Jonathan was about peace,” said Jonathan’s mother, Georgia Ferrell.

Georgia Ferrell set the tone for the day of action and peace, as she and son Willie spoke before Monday morning’s prayer vigil.

“Me and my mother, we will always continue to push forward and show people Jonathan is a great person,” said Willie Ferrell.

All races and ages showed up to hold hands and pray for unity. Later in the day youth activists held a Teach In at Marshall Park.

“People are concerned, and they’re also very inspired and empowered to figure out ways to become involved in community and to move for social justice,” said Reia Chapman with Sister Song.

Advocates from all organizations, including the NAACP, want to spread the message of change without violence.

“To do something like a Teach In where people have opportunity to learn and talk and speak with each other and grow and get to know each other better is just as important as the protest action and prayer action,” said Aisha Dew with NAACP.

The Peaceful Day of Action ended with the showing of a one hour documentary about Ferguson and the Brown case.
