LINCOLN COUNTY, NC — A son making an emotional plea, trying to find the driver who killed his mother.
The woman was walking home along a busy highway in Lincoln County when a car hit her. Her family hopes someone comes forward with a tip that leads to an arrest.
Jeremiah Kittle is mourning. His mother, 53-year old Sherry Kittle, was hit by a car and killed Wednesday night. The car kept on going.
“I had to tell my kids this morning that their grandmother got hit by a car and she’s deceased,” says Jeremiah Kittle, the victim’s son. “I had to tell her brother this morning that his sister got hit by a car and killed.”
Jeremiah says his mother’s car broke down three months ago, and she’s been walking to a convenience store about a mile down Highway 321 on a regular basis. She was headed home around 8:30 Wednesday evening when the accident occurred.
Elizabeth Roberts lives across the street. She says Kittle recently changed her routine.
“She usually walked during the daytime. But since it started getting hot, she started going in the evening,” says neighbor Elizabeth Roberts.
Authorities were on Highway 321 this morning, recreating the accident scene. They are looking for answers, hoping someone will have information to give Sherry Kittle’s friends and family some closure.
“We just want to know why it happened. We understand it’s an accident. We don’t think this happened on purpose,” says Sgt. Kelly Stewart of the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
“If they were following behind a car and maybe saw something. Or was traveling the opposite direction and thought they may have saw something. If they could come forth and maybe tell the highway patrol what they saw, we would appreciate it,” says Jeremiah Kittle.
Troopers tell WCCB that they are looking for a white, mid-sized sedan with front end damage, and a broken front headlight on the passenger side. If you know anything that can help investigators find the driver, call the North Carolina Highway Patrol at 828-466-5500
