SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) β Dustin Johnson is the leader heading into the second round of the PGA Championship, which is underway in Wisconsin.
Johnson doesn’t tee off until this afternoon, trying to improve on his one-shot overnight lead fashioned on a 6-under 66 at Whistling Straits.
It’s not the first time Johnson has come flying out of the gate at majors. He is now 37 under par in the opening two rounds of the last six majors in which he’s appeared, but hasn’t been able to finish off the deal.
Winds are expected to kick up today and there is a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms.
The marquee group of Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth (SPEETH) and Zach Johnson are already on the course. Defending champ McIlroy and Masters and U.S. Open camp Spieth opened the day five off the pace. British Open champ Johnson was nine back.
Tiger Woods is also nine shots off the pace to start the day. He’s in jeopardy of missing the cut in a third straight major for the first time in his career.
LPGA-CAMBIA PORTLAND CLASSIC
Co-leaders looking for first win
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) β Amy Anderson and Sandra Changkija are co-leaders heading into the second round of the LPGA Cambia Portland Classic.
Anderson set an NCAA record with 20 tournament victories during her college career at North Dakota State, but is seeking her first win on tour.
The 26-year-old Changkija is also is in search of her first win in her fourth LPGA season
Canadian teen star Brooke Henderson starts the day a shot back along with Alison Lee and Julieta Granada.

Streaking Jays welcome Yankees
UNDATED (AP) β The Toronto Blue Jays are turning into the summer sensation of major league baseball.
The NL East leaders go after a club-record 12th straight win when they open a home series against the division rival Yankees. Toronto swept a three-game series in New York last week as part of the streak, to vault them ahead of the Yankees for the top spot in the division. The Jays holds a half-game lead over New York.
Toronto has trailed in just two of 100 innings during their winning streak.
The Cubs take a seven-game winning streak into their showdown in Chicago with the White Sox today. That’s put the Cubs firmly in control of the second wildcard spot in the National League.
Seattle’s Nelson Cruz is expected to be back in the line-up for the Mariners when they open a series in Boston. His 21-game hitting streak ties Toronto’s Troy Tulowitzki for the longest in the majors this season. Cruz left Tuesday’s game with neck spasms and was held out of the line-up Wednesday, before yesterday’s day off.
Houston’s Dallas Keuchel will try to joins Seattle’s Felix Hernandez as the only 14-game winners in the American League when the Astros host Detroit. The left-hander was beaten in his previous start and has not lost consecutive outings this season.
There is a full 15-game schedule in the majors today and tonight.
NASCAR-MICHIGAN
Qualifying at Brooklyn
BROOKLYN, Mich. (AP) β NASCAR returns to all left-hand turns with qualifying set on the two-mile oval at Michigan later today. Joey Logano is coming off a victory last week at Watkins Glen in the final road course race of the season. Logano goes into the weekend 42 points back of series leader Kevin Harvick in the driver’s standings.
Kurt Busch won the rain-shortened race at the track in June.
