Dr. Tony: Taking a Look at What Is ‘Healthy’

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The definition of “healthy” varies depending on who you ask.

Certain foods seem to be unhealthy but really aren’t.

Dr. Tony Hyser, of Providence Health, joins us with three foods that can be tricky when it comes to health benefits.

Hyser says red meat has good protein in it and gets a bad wrap. Palm-sized servings offer plenty of health benefits. If you get your meat from an organic or grass-fed cow, they tend not to have the detrimental effects to our body that the other meats would.

People worry about the cholosterol problems eggs can cause, but they don’t raise cholesterol enough to be problematic. Free-range chickens lay eggs that are healthier for you. They have a lower salmonella rate.

Dark chocolate, from the cacao bean, is high in antioxidants. Chocolate that is 70% organic or higher, will have more antioxidants.
