BALTIMORE (AP) β The Kansas City Royals won their fourth extra-inning game of this postseason by outlasting Baltimore 8-6 in 10 innings to win the opener of the AL Championship Series. Alex Gordon’s leadoff homer in the 10th snapped a tie and Mike Moustakas also homered in the 10th, a two-run shot.
ST. LOUIS (AP) β The San Francisco Giants, the NL wild-card winner fresh off a four-game elimination of the Washington Nationals, visit the St. Louis Cardinals tonight in the opener of the NL Championship Series. Giants ace Madison Bumgarner, an 18-gane winner in the regular season, takes on 20-game winner Adam Wainwright of the Central Division-champion Cardinals.
STANFORD, Calif. (AP) __ Kevin Hogan threw for 284 yards and three touchdowns and No. 25 Stanford slowed down Connor Halliday and the Air Raid offense in a 34-17 victory over Washington State in the lone Top 25 football game of the night. Greg Taboado (tah-boh-AH’-doh) grabbed his first two career TDs and fellow tight end Eric Cotton had his first scoring catch to help the Cardinal improve to 4-2, and 2-1 in Pac-12 play.
STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP)β On paper, the best college football game pitting teams in the AP Top 25 could be second-ranked Auburn visiting third-ranked Mississippi State in a battle of unbeaten. It’s the first matchup between top 5 teams in the history of Davis Wade Stadium and the winner will be one of the favorites to take home the SEC Western Division crown.
