The Royals send Yordano Ventura to the mound against either Wei-Yin Chen or Bud Norris. The Royals took last night’s opener 8-6 as Alex Gordon and Mike Moustakas homered in the 10th inning.
ST. LOUIS (AP) β Madison Bumgarner starts for the San Francisco Giants against Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series tonight in St. Louis. It’s the second time in three seasons the two teams are meeting in the NLCS. Two years ago, the Cardinals grabbed a three-games-to-one lead before the Giants outscored them 20-1 in taking the last three games and the World Series.
STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) β The day’s best top-25 college football matchup is in Starkville, where third-ranked Mississippi State takes on Auburn in a battle of 5-0 teams. The Bulldogs surged up the AP poll with last weekend’s 48-21 victory over previous No. 6 Texas A&M. The Tigers crushed LSU 41-7 last weekend to stay unbeaten.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) β Top-ranked Florida State has an early kickoff at Syracuse as the Seminoles try to improve to 6-0. The Seminoles come off an easy 43-3 win against Wake Forest after struggling against North Carolina State and Clemson. The Orange carrying a three-game losing streak into the game, falling at home to Louisville and Maryland in between a loss to Notre Dame at the Meadowlands.
CONCORD, N.C. (AP) β NASCAR’s Chase for the championship continues with the Bank of America 500 tonight at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Kyle Busch starts from the pole, alongside Chase contender Jeff Gordon. Denny Hamlin is on the second row, just ahead of Ryan Newman and Paul Menard.
