CHERRYVILLE, N.C. — Police arrested a woman for illegally collecting money from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Investigators say Amber Chapman deposited approximately $22,000 that was supposed to go to a veteran she was taking care of.
The veteran died and Chapman continued to cash checks sent from the government.
The investigation started after an internal review revealed the beneficiary died. Chapman has been charged with obtaining property by false pretense, computer fraud and forgery.
