CASAR, NC — A severe case of abuse in Cleveland County. Β The victim is a developmentally impaired man. Β The suspect is his caregiver, who is also his cousin.
Charles Newton faces a number of charges, including assault by strangulation and malicious castration. Β He’s locked up under $150,000 bond.
DSS went to Newton’s home on Dirty Ankle Road in Casar Wednesday to check on the victim. Β They found him with severe injuries, including broken bones, fractures and bruises all over his body. Β The sheriff says it appears the victim had been assaulted over a number of days.
