CASAR, NC — A severe case of abuse in Cleveland County. The victim is a developmentally impaired man. The suspect is his caregiver, who is also his cousin.
Charles Newton faces a number of charges, including assault by strangulation and malicious castration. He’s locked up under $150,000 bond.
DSS went to Newton’s home on Dirty Ankle Road in Casar Wednesday to check on the victim. They found him with severe injuries, including broken bones, fractures and bruises all over his body. The sheriff says it appears the victim had been assaulted over a number of days.
