BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. (AP) β A Detroit-area museum is preparing to show off what it’s calling the most comprehensive exhibition of authenticated Andy Warhol record covers to date.
Sixty albums designed by the late pop-art icon will be on display at Cranbrook Art Museum beginning this weekend. They range from the recognizable to the rare.
There’s Warhol’s yellow banana-on-white background cover for The Velvet Underground’s 1967 debut album as well as his workable zipper design for The Rolling Stones’ 1971 “Sticky Fingers” record.
There are also a handful of covers that have never been shown in such a setting.
Exhibition curator Laura Mott says “record covers are the only medium (Warhol) worked in throughout his entire career.”
“Warhol On Vinyl: The Record Covers, 1949-1987+” opens to the public on Saturday and runs through March 15.
