CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Wilson was at Ardrey Kell High School in Ballantyne where students were not only working hard to support their Student Hunger Drive, but were also raising funds to support pediatic cancer research. And as usual, Wilson helped get the students all worked up.
Each year Ardrey Kell along with many of the high schools in Charlotte, Concord and Fort Mill in South Carolina compete to raise can goods for their Student Hunger Drive which supports the Second Harvest Food Bank. This year 17 schools in the area are competing to win $2,000 for their school as well as bragging rights for raising the most pounds of food per student for Second Harvest Food Bank.
Ardrey Kell won the fundraiser last year and they are working hard to win it again this year. The six week competition not only includes collecting food, but also writing and producing a skit for competition. The students gave us a little peek at their skit for this year.
But the kids aren’t content to just work on their hunger drive, but they are also proudly wearing pick while raising funds for pediatric cancer research in memory of their schoolmate Ellie who passed in 2010 from pediatric cancer. Ellie’s birthday would have been this week, and her favorite color was pink.
100% of the food donated to the schools for the Student Hunger Drive goes directly to Second Harvest Food Bank for families living in Charlotte and surrounding areas.
