A proposed North Carolina bill would allow business owners to refuse serving customers based on their religious beliefs. The Religious Freedom Bill was proposed this week by two Representatives from Mecklenburg County, and opponents say it opens the door to discrimination and would take the state a step backward. Supporters say it will protect business owner’s from being forced to violate their faith.
The bill says state action, or laws, should not burden a person’s right to exercise religion. Indiana’s governor just signed a similar religious freedom bill into law Thursday. But not without pushback, even from the White House. If the bill were to pass here in North Carolina, businesses or organizations could turn people away in the of religious freedom.
So what do you think? Is the Religious Freedom Restoration Act a good idea, or a bad idea?
