Real Vintage Finds At The Rat’s Nest In NoDa

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — If you are a secondhand shopper and looking for some real vintage finds, we suggest checking out the Rat’s Nest in NoDa.

The small secondhand clothing store sells items from the 70’s, Western apparel, vinyl, and most importantly cowboy boots on cowboy boots on COWBOY BOOTS.

The vintage shop is curated meaning all the items in the store were preselected because they are trendy and in demand.

The store is located on East 3rd Street in Charlotte (tucked behind the Evening Muse on North Davidson Street) and is open Wednesday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Vintage Vs. Thrift Shops:

  • Vintage stores are curated meaning you’ll save time looking for an item you love but, that means the price is generally higher since someone else did the searching for you.
  • Items at vintage stores are often more rare and unique.
  • Vintage indicates the year of production, while thrift refers to the price of an item.
  • Items at thrift stores are often cheaper, but you may have to dig a bit to find a quality piece.
  • Thrift stores rely heavily on donations so depending on the area you are on in, there will be vastly different kinds of clothing items and trends.
  • Don’t be fooled though as some stores may sell both thrifted and vintage clothing!

Why Shop SecondHand:

  • Cuts down on clothing waste.
  • It’s a form of recycling; saves resources and helps out the environment.
  • Sends a message to fast fashion companies that often have questionable ethics.
  • Saves $$$ since you’re not buying brand new items for full price.
  • It promotes sustainable fashion.
  • You can get pieces that no one else has (hello fashionista time to stand out).
  • These items stand the test of time over fast fashion pieces, especially vintage pieces, since they are better made and meant to last.
