CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Both the Town of Davidson and Matthews in North Carolina voted on Thursday to implement an indoor mask mandate regardless of vaccination status.
Davidson voted to put the mask mandate into effect immediately, and Matthews voted to put an indoor mask mandate in effect beginning Friday, August 20th at 5 p.m.
This call for a mask mandate comes as Delta variant cases of COVID-19 are on the rise.
“Immediate action is needed to slow the spread of Covid-19 in our community,” said Matthews Mayor John Higdon. “One of the most important things we can do now is wear a mask to protect ourselves and the people around us – particularly the most vulnerable among us and children under the age of 12 who are not eligible to receive the vaccine. Vaccinations remain critically important in fighting this virus, and I encourage everyone to get the vaccine.”
Leaders from both towns voted to enact these interim mandates until the Mecklenburg County mandate goes into effect on August 28th.
