Community Binds Together After Deadly Church Bus Crash

CHARLOTTE, NC– It’s been over 24 hours since that horrific bus crash in Tennessee claimed the lives of 6 members of a church in Statesville.

As investigators continue to search for answers into what caused the accident, a community is mourning the loss of some of their own.

That includes long-time church member Carolyn Auton-White. She says she was devastated to hear the news that a bus from her congregation at Front Street Baptist Church was involved in a deadly wreck on I-40 in Tennessee.

The monthly trip taken by senior citizens from the church is a trip Auton-White says she’s taken over 20 times. But this time, she didn’t go.

“Someone came to my house to see if I was dead,” says Auton-White, “…It means that God didn’t want me on that bus.”

But several of her friends and neighbors were on that bus.

It was traveling home from Gatlinburg Wednesday when one of the bus tires blew.  It crossed the center line, hit an on-coming SUV, then got hit by a truck.

Of the 8 people killed, 6 are from the church. Several others are injured.

As the congregation awaits more answers, the strength of the community remains unwavered,
