6 dead, 76 Missing After Strong Quake Hits Taiwan

Rescuers worked Wednesday to free people trapped after a strong earthquake near Taiwan’s east coast caused several buildings to cave in and tilt dangerously. At least six people were killed and 76 could not be contacted following the quake.

Dow Plunges 1,175 Points In Worst Day For Stocks Since 2011

The Dow Jones industrial average plunged more than 1,100 points Monday as stocks took their worst loss in six and a half years. Two days of steep losses have erased the market’s gains from the start of this year and ended a period of record-setting calm for stocks.

GPS-Based System Could Have Prevented Deadly Train Crash

Federal investigators spent a second day Monday at the site of a deadly train crash in South Carolina, where an Amtrak train was mistakenly sent off a main track and down a side spur - and into a parked freight train. The ensuing crash early Sunday killed two people and injured more than 100 passengers.
